Date: Wednesday – Thursday, 17-18 April 2019 Time: 0830 - 1700 Venue: MD6 Centre for Healthcare Simulation, 14, Medical Drive, National University of Singapore, Singapore 117599 *A bus has been arranged to transport ECMO workshop participants from Suntec Convention Centre to National University of Singapore for both days. Participants who want to avail the facility should meet at Suntec Convention Centre, Level 1, Big Screen at 0715 hrs. The return trip to Suntec Convention Centre would be at 1700 hrs. The highly acclaimed ECMO workshop at the SG ANZICS develops skills for doctors, nurses, perfusionists and respiratory therapists in the management of patients on ECMO and troubleshooting common problems with a simulated learning experience. The content of the Course will include pre-learning materials as well as overview summaries on ECMO indications and contraindications, ECMO physiology, emerging perspectives and other aspects of ECMO patient care and management, including anticoagulation and weaning. The didactic talks will be supplemented by water drills that cover the A to Z of the circuit and its components, plus common issues faced during day-to-day management of ECMO patients. The learning would be further enhanced by group simulation sessions to allow for hands-on learning and active instructions on basic and advanced topics such as circuit checks, equipment components, alarms, pressure monitoring, and emergency trouble-shooting procedures. Faculty and simulation educators will facilitate discussions on team training, clinical critical thinking and decision making. |

| Synopsis: |
Complex Home Ventilation is the term proposed by an NHS (National Health Services – UK) workgroup to denote
The goal of complex home ventilation is to maximise function and QoL of such patients while maintaining a high standard of safety and preserving survival as far as possible. Success in complex home ventilation depends on attention to the multi-faceted needs of such patients, preferably delivered by a dedicated multidisciplinary team. This year’s course faculty includes specialists from National University Hospital Paediatrics Home Care Programme and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital Children’s Complex and Home Care Services. The content will include aspects of Complex Home Ventilation relevant for the paediatric age group. |
| Target audience: | Physicians, Nurses and Therapists with interest in provision of Complex Home Ventilation |
| Learning Objectives: |
This workshop will cover the physiology and pathophysiology of respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation tips applied to the complex patient; advanced tracheostomy care - breathing / speaking / eating with a trach; airway clearance; setting up a patient for long term ventilation; emergency drills. Special considerations for the paediatric home ventilation patients and their families will also be touched upon. |

| Synopsis: |
Here we are again! Last year’s Bare bones course our first, was met with a very positive response. This year we have reviewed our course content taking into account the valuable feedback from our participants and faculty. This year the course will allow more time at the practical stations so you get more hands on. We all know that ultrasound use in the ICU is now routine. It has clearly proven its usefulness in the managing of critically ill patients. The use of ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of shock states has resulted in better outcomes. No more guess work. The use of ultrasound to guide invasive procedures have also improved patient safety and minimised the need to move patients around for procedures like drainage of effusions or PICC insertion. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Learning Objectives:: |
The aim of this course is to introduce participants to the basic use of ultrasound in its simplest form to aid patient management. We aim to minimise complex jargon and measurements to introduce easy to remember algorithms and skills that anyone can learn and use while at the same time providing sufficient scientific background. Emphasis is on the things that make a difference. More emphasis will be placed on cardiac ultrasound and common procedural ultrasound. This course is aimed at all who are interested in ICU ultrasound especially the total newbie, resident or consultant new to ultrasound. We hope to be able to impart practical skills that you can immediately use in your ICU. More practical time will be devoted for you to learn the most crucial skills of good reproducible image acquisition and simple but reliable and usable interpretation to aid you in your work. |

| Synopsis: | The haemodynamic monitoring workshop is designed for doctors working in anaesthesia, emergency medicine and critical care medicine who are taking care of haemodynamically unstable patients. The main objective is to equip participants with the knowledge in interpreting basic and advanced haemodynamic parameters such as ScvO2, stroke volume variation and its limitations. Live animals will be used to demonstrate the changes in haemodynamic parameters for various shock states and response to pharmacological and physiological manoeuvres. Continuous haemodynamic parameters will be correlated with “live” echocardiographic examinations. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Synopsis: | The PFCCS course is an in-depth and comprehensive programme aimed at improving paediatric care. Using the same hands-on, high-quality approach as Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS), this programme focuses intensely on the paediatric population. PFCCS accomplishes these goals by providing a balance of didactic lectures and hands-on skill stations while building on the participant’s basic paediatric knowledge. Those who have completed Basic Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) or their equivalents will benefit from PFCCS, because much of the material covers the transition from initial patient resuscitation to arrival in the intensive care unit. Some of the unique features of the course include interactive case scenario-based lectures and skill stations specific to critically ill or injured children. |
