Nurses in the intensive care unit face multiple challenges everyday. These include keeping up-to-date with the landscape of intensive care which is continuously moulded by a relentless onslaught of new clinical evidence.
Tools which are used at the bedside and which must be handled by intensive care nurses contribute new challenges as they get more sophisticated by the day.
Learning objectives:
- To know what’s in and what’s out in intensive care in the year 2015.
- To understand the use of ultrasound in the intensive care setting.
- To understand extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and how to nurse patients on it.
- To understand the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) and how to nurse patients on it.
This Nursing Workshop aims to update participants on the ever-changing landscape of intensive care. Participants will be acquainted with current evidence and how this may be applied to practice. Target participants are intensive care professionals and all who have a strong interest in intensive care.
